REGENERATIVE MEDICINE

Regenerative medicine uses innovative, state of the art, non-surgical treatments to promote your body’s own healing processes to relieve pain and restore function. This type of treatment offers an exciting alternative for patients suffering from a number of conditions, including back and joint pain. Regenerative medicine is an increasingly effective treatment option for our patients that promotes, accelerates and assists your body’s natural healing abilities in the repair of damaged or diseased tissue. These minimally invasive procedures can provide long-lasting results. To learn more about regenerative medicine, call or schedule an appointment online today.

REGENERATIVE MEDICINE Q & A

WHAT IS REGENERATIVE MEDICINE?

Your body is full of cells, some of which help to repair and heal damaged or diseased tissue. As a result of age or injury, there are sometimes not enough of these important repair cells in your body to effectively repair damaged areas. Regenerative medicine helps to increase concentrations of these cells – your body’s own healing agents – and thus stimulate your body’s natural healing process. This has proven to be an effective way to decrease pain and repair tissue damage due to injury or wear and tear.

WHAT TYPES OF REGENERATIVE MEDICINE TREATMENTS ARE AVAILABLE?

At Glaser Pain Relief Center, we offer two cutting-edge, regenerative medicine procedures.

Stem-Cell Therapy uses a patient’s own stem cells or embryonic to foster the natural repair response of diseased or injured tissue. Stem cells are the body’s undifferentiated cells that turn into cells with specialized functions. With stem-cell therapy, we harvest your body’s own stem cells or use embryonic stem cells and then inject them into the areas in need. These cells can help with healing damaged tissue, tendons, ligaments, cartilage and bone.

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Treatment delivers a high concentration of platelets to a damaged or injured area to accelerate and strengthen the body’s healing process. Your body’s first response to a soft-tissue injury is to deliver platelet cells to the area. Platelets are the small solid components of the blood that are important to clotting and an important part of your body’s natural healing process. Platelets both initiate the natural repair process and attract stem cells to further assist in the healing process. In a PRP procedure, a small sample of blood is drawn and then placed in a centrifuge. The centrifuge spins the blood at high speeds, which results in platelets being separated from other components. The result, platelet-rich plasma, is then injected into or around the point of injury. This type of treatment is increasingly popular for both professional athletes and weekend warriors that are looking for a minimally invasive treatment for ongoing or acute injuries.

WHO IS A CANDIDATE FOR REGENERATIVE MEDICINE?

Regenerative medicine is an effective, non-surgical treatment option for many individuals suffering from ongoing back or joint pain. These treatments can be a good option for patients suffering from:

  • Osteoarthritis of the knee, shoulder, hip or spine
  • Rotator cuff tears
  • Chronic plantar fasciitis
  • Knee ligament injuries
  • Back or neck injuries
  • Ankle sprains and tendonitis
  • Tennis or golf elbow

What are the benefits of Regenerative Medicine?
Regenerative medicine treatments are a way to relieve pain and restore function without the risks of surgery, general anesthesia and a hospital stay. Further, these minimally invasive treatments can significantly reduce a patient’s recovery and rehab time. Finally, since they promote the body’s own processes for repair and healing, they can provide a long-lasting or permanent solution for pain or loss of function.

When Will I Feel Results and How Effective are these Treatments?
Patients often feel an immediate decrease in pain and increase in function after treatment; however, there will be continued, gradual improvement as your body works to heal damaged or injured areas. Regenerative medicine treatments have proven highly-effective for some patients. Ultrasounds and MRIs have shown definitive tissue repair after these treatments. They are most effective when done soon after an injury before significant or permanent damage has been done.
